Grace Maffucci ’22

The LALS program at Providence College allowed me to focus on my specific interests within the realm of Latin American history and culture. Through my LALS minor courses, specifically the Diversity of Latin American Religions and my capstone with Fr. Orique, I learned how interconnected my interests are in art, music, religion, Spanish language, ethnicity, and environmental studies within the realm of Latin American studies.

My specific interest in the history and culture of the indigenous population of Central America and the interaction of indigenous culture with European Catholicism, which I explored through my LALS minor, inspired me to apply for a Fulbright scholarship in Mexico, and I will be teaching English in Mexico as a Fulbright ambassador through the 2022-23 academic year. I am grateful for the opportunities offered to me by the LALS program at PC, and I am confident that what I learned as an LALS minor will carry me through my time in Mexico and in my future as a cultural ambassador.
