I have long been fascinated by the geographic, political, and cultural complexities throughout Latin America. Being able to translate my real-life travel experiences throughout the region directly into an academic setting through the Latin American and Latina/o Studies (LALS) program has been one of the most rewarding parts of my PC experience.
The LALS minor … provides a thorough and diverse range of courses to better understand the importance of such a rapidly growing and complex demographic in the United States and abroad. In completing the LALS minor, culminating in my final project on the 1994 Zapatista uprising and the struggle for Indigenous autonomy, I hope to pursue a career in either immigration or criminal law to confront systemic injustices faced by those most vulnerable in the judicial system.
