History and political science double major, LALS minor
Why would you recommend minoring in LALS? What are its benefits?
I’d recommend minoring in LALS because it gives you a more diverse point of view. While PC has diversity requirements, LALS allowed me to further branch into a region of the world and cultures I had not been previously exposed in a deep way to. I think it allows you to better understand a culture that is not your own and realize we are all similar despite language and geographic differences.
The LALS minor made me realize that when I pursue grad school, I want to do something with children or families and relating to immigration. I think the immigrant rhetoric has become so vitriolic and divisive, and it doesn’t represent the majority of people. My final project for LALS actually was about the US-Mexican border and presidential policies and public opinion surrounding it, and I was inspired by many of my LALS classes and was given a diverse view of the region.
